Preston Bus Station – Competition Brief Package

This project was undertaken by Architect’s HQ Ltd and assisted the client to secure funding and develop bidder’s brief pack to launch the competition via RIBA Competition Website.

Project Details:

Kharyat was asked to produce indepth site appraisal and series of artist impressions showcasing the constraints and the potential of the site,  design considerations for locating the new build youth zone against Grade 2 listed Preston Bus Station and opportunities to create a public realm to engage with local community and visitors to Preston and ways to refurbish overall existing Bus Station. This information was appreciated by the client as it was integral to secure the necessary funding from the executive board and external agencies/investors.

Furthermore, the Kharyat was asked to assist with preparing the competition brief package, beyond the usual information of surveys and coordinating external consultants and internal team, he also had to prodcue a detail Conservation Management Plan with Statement of Significance needed to preserve the building’s unique Grade 2 brutalist architecture and siting of conceptual model of the youthzone block and proposals to refurbish bus station concourse.

The timescales for producing the brief pack was very tight and 86 entries were submitted to RIBA Competition producing a eventful winner. Press here for more information.
