This project was undertaken by Kharyat Siddiq – Education Design Manager who was nominated as the architectural lead during his time at Capita Property Division.

Project Details:

Hameldon Community College – Phase 3 of the Lancashire BSF programme was funded to replace the existing school along with a new build education facility with additional external facilities such as MUGA/wind turbine/solar panel, etc. Kharyat was the lead architect working within Design & Build Contract arrangement for  Bovis Lead Lease – main contractor. He successfully lead the team in design workshops with the participating school head & department leads, developed bespoke and cost effective design proposals which embodied the ethos of the proposed educational delivery vision.

The design reflected the school’s ethos of Business & Math specialism and this was conceptually communicated through the elevation design of the building as ‘moving digits highlighted via school colour showing mathematical calculation taking place’. The teaching accommodation was specifically located around a strong heart space of internal threatre, with two storey learning collaboratives plugging into a busy active ‘street’ wrap around the black box which acts as the spine to the whole school.

Kharyat had left Capita PLC, so was not able to run the project on site to its final stages, however due to the programme milestones and work packages signed-off by the client, cost certainty was achieved early on to ensure the school was completed on time and budget and it was very well recieved by the end user and the educational department and local residents.
